A few months ago, I was sitting on the couch with my wife when the apple commercial with Zooey Deschanel came on. After watching the whole thing, and hearing a bunch of ridiculous chatter between Zoey and the phone, my wife turned to me and said “ha, it’s like you don’t need friends anymore as long as you have your phone”.
(here is the ridiculous commercial)

It’s not that I am against the voice technology or apple (although I am not a big apple product guy), I just think the whole concept of Siri acting like your friend is ridiculous. Its a robot. Or She is a robot. Whatever. The point is, all I really care about is that she (or it) gives me the information I need.
Arise Google Voice Assistant!
Apparently, this new product, which is available with Jelly Bean, is awesome. Not the one on my Galaxy Nexus, but I am seriously considering rooting my phone to get Jelly Bean. A real Siri competitor and assistant. There is a great write up about it on Search Engine Land, and a good demo between Google Voice assistant and Siri here:

I have no issue witht he technology. In fact, anyone who knows me would know that I embrace technology. I want nothing more than to be walking around with Google Glass at all times like Sergei Brin
