Wait a second, you’re thinking, I know about Facebooks “Like” Button, and I know about Google’s “+1” Button, but what is a “Like +1” Button?
Glad you asked.
I introduce you to “Like Plus One”, a browser extension created by Ashkan Soltani and Brian Kennish which was built, as they joke at the top to “reduces your risk of getting carpal tunnel syndrome up to 50% by turning Like into Like+1 buttons”. Really though, its pretty awesome. What it does is convert “like” buttons on your site to “Like +1” buttons making sharing this information with Google and Facebook even easier.
But here is why its so brilliant, from a user experience standpoint, it makes sharing that information easier and ensures that both Facebook and Google are getting the same information. Why click twice when I can click once.
What if you want to send information to only one or the other? Honestly, I cant envision a situation where that would come up. Why would I would want to send information to Google and not Facebook or vice-verse. It wouldn’t make any sense. As the engines become more and more about sharing social content, and social content becomes more about searching, and not to mention, that they all are using each other’s information, then why would I NOT want both platforms to know what I enjoy and provide me with a better user experience?
This browser extension goes ahead and transforms my “Like” Button, into a “Like +1” button and ensures that I share with everyone.
Maybe I am wrong, although I dont think I am.
Can anyone think of a situation where you might want to share only on Google or only on Facebook?
