I work in Digital Marketing. And even if you don’t, you have likely heard countless stories about Zappos and why they crush it online. Well, I have never personally ordered anything from them but last week, I was looking for a new pair of shoes. I was browsing random department stores that would be top of mind, one being Nordstroms. I found a pair of shoes I liked, but they seemed awfully expensive. So I Googled it to see if I could save a few bucks. Little did I know this is actually a normal price for shoes. HA!
But I liked them so I decided to get them anyway. And it just so happened, the comparison link I clicked on in Google was Zappos (apparently they kick butt in SEO).
After thinking it over, I was still decided to get them from Nordstroms. That is, until I realized that the bill was an additional $12 in taxes (which is not a huge sum of money, but its the principal) and it would take between 6-8 days to get the shoes.
So out of curiosity, I hopped back over to Zappos to check out the final price. Turns out, there was no sales tax, which already helped, and I saw an ad at the top which said order before 1pm PST and get it next day. My Mistake, that was only for clothing. Either way, it was between 4-6 days which still meant I would get them sooner.
So I did it.
And wondering when it would actually arrive, I sent a “Live Chat” message to them to ask.
I jumped on with Laura M. and I started by telling her that the inner geek inside me was really excited to have made my first order on Zappos! (I know, I am a loser… whatever).
Well, completely unsolicited, she asks me for my order number. And when she realized I was from Chicago she said:
And my reponse:
Followed by her:
So there you have it. Any company that can anticipate what will make me truly giddy and give me the absolute highest quality attention, is a winner by me.
Glad to finally know what all the hype is about. I assure you, I will be using Zappos for a long time to come.
