Jesus Loves Kit Kat’s

April 27, 2010 by Aaron Friedman Leave a Comment

If you haven’t seen this yet, a brilliant explanation on how this ad agency managed to attract a ton of attention to Kit Kat, the beloved candy bar,  simply by sending off an email to local news papers.

Basically, they realized there was a ton of hype every time there was a “Jesus sighting”. So they jumped on the opportunity and once the online news papers picked up the story, bloggers started writing about it, and then community forums, etc.

And here is where the magic happens. When people realized this was a joke (they launched this campaign just in time for Good Friday) they started commenting on the story with the famous slogan “Gimme a Break” or “Give me a Break”. This created tons of advertising for KitKat.

I would really love to take a look at their sales from those days. I would bet there is a big spike. Awesome idea!
